It’s not the same as sadness. You can let go of desire for the thing you lost, and sadness goes away.
But grief is a gift that keeps on giving.
Grief is love – something essential to our life force, something pure and good and true – that has nowhere to go.
It’s a hole that doesn’t heal.
Instead, we have to grow big enough, strong enough, around the hole, to carry it, and keep going.
You never stop loving the thing you lost. But you get strong enough to keep loving anyway.
